IT-Security: BSI Studies

The Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) choosed <kes>, with its newly founded “BSI Forum”, as its own official organ. Since 1995 this partnership has seen the publication of a number of books and studies for the BSI.

Two titles are published in  English language:

Pervasive Computing: Trends and Impacts

The study investigates the central trends in pervasive computing and considers them from technical, economic and social perspectives. It emphasises the level of analysis that is located between individual case studies and the global, comprehensive picture, and that can be mapped onto the application areas of pervasive computing.
The study bundles the specialised knowledge of German and international experts who were asked for their assessment of pervasive computing in interviews and an online survey.

Biometrics in the Reflection of Requirements

 

The technology of biometrics is in the focus of discussion in respect to possible contributions to improve security in areas such like border control applications (e.g. passports or VISA) or general human identification and authentication.


One of the most crucial preconditions for large scale implementations of biometric systems is e.g. the standardization of data formats and interfaces. Reports are given on the recent progress in the respective standardization bodies as well as the implementation and application of these standards to system design.
